JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Transducer Design Engineer to join our team. As a Transducer Design Engineer specializing in industrial and underwater ultrasonic transducers, you will be responsible for designing and modeling cutting-edge transducer systems for a wide range of applications. You will work on projects that require the use of sound waves for various purposes, such as underwater imaging, oceanographic surveys, water speed and depth measurement, flow and level measurement, or weather characterization. This role is essential for advancing our technology and contributing to our mission of providing innovative solutions to our clients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transducer Design: Develop and optimize ultrasonic transducer designs for industrial and underwater applications. This includes selecting appropriate materials, designing transducer elements, and integrating them into systems. Work with electrical engineering to design transformers to impedance match transducers with amplifiers.
Modeling and Simulation: Utilize specialized software and modeling tools to simulate the performance of ultrasonic transducers, ensuring their efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.
Acoustic Signal Processing: Work on signal processing techniques to enhance the performance of transducers, including beamforming, signal conditioning, and noise reduction.
Testing and Validation: Plan and conduct experiments and tests to validate the performance of transducer designs. Analyze and interpret test results to refine designs as needed. Select hydrophones for specific test applications. Work with software and test engineers to troubleshoot issues with production tests.
Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and scientists, to integrate transducer systems into larger projects. Work closely with engineering technician staff to protype transducers and develop new designs.
Documentation: Maintain thorough and organized documentation of designs, simulations, test results, and project progress.
Research and Development: Stay updated with the latest advancements in acoustics and ultrasound technology and apply this knowledge to improve transducer designs.
Product Line Management: Monitor test data from production lines and perform root cause analysis on transducers that do not meet specifications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing and modeling ultrasonic transducers for industrial and underwater applications.
- Proficiency in acoustics simulation software (e.g., COMSOL, Onscale/PZFlex, Ansys).
- Strong understanding of signal processing techniques and algorithms.
- Knowledge of materials used in transducer construction.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required
- Experience working with ultrasonics related test equipment such as hydrophones, impedance analyzers, amplifiers, oscilloscopes, and waveform generators.
- Understanding of linear circuit analysis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for acoustic simulations.
- Patents or publications in the field of acoustics engineering.
- Proficiency in programming languages like MATLAB, Python, or C/C++ can be valuable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ABILITIES:
Individuals must possess these knowledges, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirement, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary functions of the job.
- The ability to bend downward and forward by bending spine at the waist; bend legs at knee, to come to rest on knee or knees, bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; use upper job extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward, use upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion; raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position; to pinch, pick or otherwise primarily work with fingers. Primary functions are performed (sitting or standing or a combination of both).
- Ability to wear protective clothing such as respirator, mask, gloves, safety glasses and or safety shoes as required.
- Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with mechanical assembly and/or visual inspection involving small parts/defects.
- Ability to perform repetitive or routine duties working from detailed instructions and under standard procedures.
- Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
The candidate must be a US citizen and eligible to obtain a security clearance.
