MSI Transducers is a small team that manufactures low volume, highly complex electro-mechanical sonar assemblies for defense and commercial applications. This advanced-level position receives high level instructions on new assignments and is expected to exercise independent judgment in determining objectives and approaches to most assignments.

The Technical Program Manager will have responsibility for the management of MSI’s prototype and production of acoustic transducer programs. This hands-on role is responsible for driving multidisciplinary teams to develop and fabricate complex mechanical and acoustical designs from by working from program inception to completion. He/she will contribute and provide technical direction to write proposals, create detailed design packages, create manufacturing plans, verify technical requirements, and validate product performance.

The ideal candidate will have experience with acoustics and sonar.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management

  • Establish milestones and monitor adherence to master plans, schedules, and budgets for both highly complex low volume products and medium volume production products.
  • Define and direct the performance of program functional task elements such as procurement, manufacturing, quality, configuration, logistics, administrative functions, contracts administration, facilities, etc.
  • Create and review all contract deliverable items.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and facilitate resolution across the organization.
  • Conduct periodic program status review meetings with major program contributors to report status relative to all aspects of program objectives and assure resolution of program performance issues.
  • Present and review design packages at both internal and customer attended design reviews with responsibility for assuring customer satisfaction in terms of product performance, delivery, cost, and related areas.
  • Interface with outside vendors to determine part suitability, availability of materials and parts, and delivery schedules.
  • Transition product from prototype to production.

Product Design

  • Maintain thorough and organized documentation of designs, simulations, test results, and project progress.
  • Plan and conduct experiments and tests to validate processes against specification requirements. Analyze and interpret test results to refine designs as needed.
  • Complete detailed design and analysis culminating in an engineering drawing package and related parts lists and BOMs.
  • Oversee product specification review and design specification generation for moderate to complex projects.

Collaboration

  • Act as principal point of contact with senior management to assure management understanding of program status.
  • Coordinate with business development as appropriate and assist in the preparation and implementation of business development and marketing plans. Responsible for initial program planning including proposal preparation, development of statements of work specifications, and estimation of product or service costs.
  • Define and direct the performance of program functional task elements such as procurement, manufacturing, quality, configuration, logistics, administrative functions, contracts administration, facilities, etc.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and scientists, to integrate transducer hardware into larger systems.
  • Direct the preparation of detail drawings and solid model files of components, assemblies, and subassemblies.
  • Direct manufacturing team in assembly of prototype and advanced development model hardware and support production team technicians during the design process to address any fabrication issues.

EDUCATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications

  • Must have 5 to 10 years of experience with program management.
  • A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical field is required.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in high paced and changing environments.
  • Proven ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams with conflicting / competing priorities.
  • Experience leading Continuous Improvement processes including 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Lean Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, and Value Stream Mapping
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or an equivalent program management software.
  • Expert utilization Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and /or working with underwater transducers, sonar systems, or subsea systems.
  • Experience validating designs for production.
  • Proficient with ERP software.
  • Experience creating, reviewing, and controlling products in an ERP production environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirement, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary functions of the job.

  • The ability to bend downward and forward by bending spine at the waist; bend legs at knee, to come to rest on knee or knees, bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; use upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion; raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position; to pinch, pick or otherwise primarily work with fingers. Primary functions are performed sitting.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with mechanical assembly and/or visual inspection involving small parts/defects.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing such as mask, gloves, safety glasses and or safety shoes as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive or routine duties working from detailed instructions and under standard procedures.
  • Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
