JOB SUMMARY:
MSI develops and manufactures highly complex electro-mechanical sonar assemblies for defense and commercial applications. The Production Technician will participate in the production of electromechanical devices including assembly, fabrication, and wiring using established techniques. He/she will operate under the supervision of Engineering and Manufacturing and follow written instructions to perform many of the functions of the job.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Production Technician to join our transducer development team. The ideal candidate will play an important role in supporting the design, development, and testing of transducers and subassemblies. The Production Technician will collaborate closely with Engineers to ensure the successful development of new products.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Builds and tests transducers for internal and external customers using verbal and/or written instructions.
- Assembles and tests electrical components, prototypes, and systems.
- Uses epoxies, adhesives, cleaning solvents and other chemicals as needed'
- Uses variety of hand tools to fabricate parts for use in new and existing transducer designs.
- Collaborates with Engineers to develop, refine and improve processes and products.
- Collaborates with Engineers to develop and execute rework or repair plans for products as needed.
- Demonstrates precise hand-eye coordination in the ability to work on intricate assemblies.
- Observes all safety regulations including personal protective equipment applicable to the use of electrical tooling and equipment and applicable to the use of chemicals.
- Performs other duties as required or directed.
USEFUL SKILLS:
- Mix, dispense and apply adhesives, epoxies and potting materials.
- Use of mechanical measurement instruments including calipers and micrometers.
- Basic soldering skills.
- Proven experience with mechanical assemblyand electrical wiring.
- Must be able to read and understand performance specifications, technical manuals, schematics and written/verbal instructions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in work.
- Standard computer skills including operation of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ABILITIES:

- The ability to bend downward and forward by bending spine at the waist; bend legs at knee, to come to rest on knee or knees, bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; use upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion; raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position; to pinch, pick or otherwise primarily work with fingers. Primary functions are performed sitting.
- Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with mechanical assembly and/or visual inspection involving small parts/defects.
- Ability to wear protective clothing such as mask, gloves, safety glasses and or safety shoes as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive or routine duties working from detailed instructions and under standard procedures.
- Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
