JOB SUMMARY:

MSI Transducers develops and manufactures highly complex electro-mechanical sonar assemblies for defense and commercial applications. We manufacture our own Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) ceramics using a unique injection molding method followed by conventional ceramic processing.

MSI Transducers is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a position as a Ceramic Processing Technician for piezoelectric applications. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years in ceramic powder processing principles and techniques. Knowledge and/or experience with injection molding is not a requirement, but is a function of this position. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and under direct supervision.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assaying of powders
  • Weighing of components
  • Batch mixing
  • Calcination or high temperature powder processing
  • Powder milling
  • Performing density measurements and particle size analysis
  • Ability to operate and maintain processing equipment such as blending machines and furnaces
  • Injection molding of ceramic preforms
  • Tooling set up and maintenance
  • Following both written and verbal instructions effectively

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:

High school education or equivalent. 3 to 5 years work related experience.

  • Ability to work with both dry and wet chemical processing
  • Strong math skills
  • Proficient in units of measure
  • Proficient with Excel spreadsheet
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Familiarity with 6S and lean manufacturing practices
  • Experience working in clean room environment a plus
  • Knowledgeable in temperature controller operation and programming a plus
  • Experience with injection molding a plus
  • Experience with ceramic powders a strong plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirement, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary functions of the job.

  • The ability to bend downward and forward by bending spine at the waist; bend legs at knee, to come to rest on knee or knees, bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; use upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion; raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position; to pinch, pick or otherwise primarily work with fingers. Primary functions are performed sitting.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with mechanical assembly and/or visual inspection involving small parts/defects.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing such as mask, gloves, safety glasses and or safety shoes as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive or routine duties working from detailed instructions and under standard procedures.
  • Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
  • Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
